It’s June, and that means it’s time for…another inconsistently timed GRASSTRONEWS post!! GRASSTRONEWS is a roundup of happenings from grassroots arts around the country for the last month-ish. Is something missing? It probably is. Submit it here.

MILESTONES! MILESTONES! MILESTONES!

  • Bridgetown DIY celebrated the two year anniversary of their La Puente, CA space in April! That follows two years of organizing as the Bridgetown Collective for social justice, inclusivity and youth participation in the arts. Happy birthday Bridgetown!! Do you get a candle for each collective member on the cake?
  • Get your zine fix in unexpected places. Like Kansas State University’s Hale Library. All Pioneers Press titles now live there, in addition to Punk Drunk Press and a rare collection of work from Adam Gnade. Read great zine news like this and more in their June newsletter! Congrats Pioneers!

HELP OUT

  • AK Press is still fundraising to recover from the damage of a recent, devastating fire at their mixed-use warehouse. They have raised $66k of the full $150k they need, thanks to awesome benefit shows around the country and matching grants from co-ops like Gaiahost. The space was home to AK Press, 1984 Printing, and a bunch of residents. Oakland deems their building still unoccupiable. In the meantime, will you help with their recovery? You can donate to their GoFundMe here. If helping out non-monetarily is more of your thing, read about other ways you can help in their recent update here.
